The Hound Books opened its doors in October 2022 as Roscoes first independent bookstore. Known internationally for decades as Trout Town, USA, Roscoe is not only the birthplace of American fly fishing but also part of a region that inspired many poems, essays, novels and more. As a destination bookstore located in the heart of Western Catskills, The Hound Books takes its inspiration from nature lovers John Burroughs and Walt Whitman whose literary appreciation of the Catskill Mountains find new readers every year. Hand-selected for a curated experience, the inventory will focus on poetry, essay, biography, memoir, history and the writing craft with a dedicated childrens and young adult section to encourage and support curious minds.

The Hound is the coziest bookshop with a wood stove and, yes, a real resident hound. The shop owner is passionate about books and their authors. The excellent inventory ranges from kids books to best sellers to small press literature and local favorites.

Great Store. Very charming, well curated collection of books and other items. Fun selection to browse through and the star of the show (the Hound) is on site to greet as well. Very glad we popped in.

What a vibe! This place is super cute and has a good selection of newly released and used books. Found one on a History of NYC. There’s a lot to choose from and definitely worth visiting if passing by Roscoe.
