I'd call this place organized chaos. It's cute and I enjoyed getting off the interstate to detour to Virden for a visit. I do recommend using Google maps because the store is easy to miss from the street.

We were visiting Virden IL for their Christmas walk and found this amazing small box store. The store is very inviting and the owner George was very friendly. We did some looking and found a great book to buy as a gift. Please take time to stop in. You don't see personal service like this often. Great store.

A small hidden gem perfect for buying books for young and old. The owner is very knowledgeable of the area as well as what he has on his shelves. He's also willing to order and books if you need him too, A place I look forward to be visiting time and time again for my avid readers.

The only bookstore with new books, 25 miles (40 km) in any direction and the only independent bookstore (i.e., not B&N) in 90 miles (145 km). Nonetheless a welcoming place with fiction and non fiction for young and old, also boasting a few local authors (e.g., a former journalist and a former lawman, with good writing chops). Plus, if you're a tourist following old Route 66 there are some non fiction history gems covering the lawless 1930's, or of course - Lincoln, mining history, and more. If you're looking for fiction you'll find books not available in B&N. Simply, this is a good place to spend some time.

A super good bookstore with one of the best selections of children's books I've seen lately. The knowledgeable bookseller recommended a few authors new to me and I can hardly wait to dive into their books. And don't forget to visit Books on the Square while you're in Virden for its huge inventory of used books.
