Welcome to A Novel Idea on Passyunk, a community-minded bookstore and event space in East Passyunk, Philadelphia. We are Alexander Schneider and Christina Rosso-Schneider, residents of East Passyunk, book lovers, and parents of two lovable rescue pups. The bookstore is our first business and our first endeavor as newlyweds (we got married in October 2018). We make up the two halves of A Novel Idea--Alexander bringing over a decade of graphic design experience to the shop, and Christina, as an author and writing professor, her experience and dedication to literary events in support of Philadelphia artists. More than anything, our goal is to cultivate community. We hope to build a bookstore that reflects the communitys interests, while also supporting it. One way were doing this is through our Philadelphia Author and Small Press sections. We hope to create and foster a space of diversity and inclusivity and want to help our customers fall in love with books, either for the first time or the millionth.

Found this gem on Passyunk ave! Walked down one day to find a book I really wanted. They were out so the gentlemen quickly ordered it for me and recommended an awesome read. Great service and recommendation.

Outside of the public library, this is our go-to stop for books. Christina and Alex are delightful and true members of the community. If they don't have the book you are looking for, they will order it for you! I also really enjoy their evening children's storytime sessions - as a mom with a 9-5 job, I often miss out on the daytime kids' events in the city, so it is nice to have an after-work option

I honestly love stopping in here whenever I’m on Passyunk. I loved the horror selection they had this past October and the cashier was very helpful with guiding me towards some horror books I would be interested in. It’s very cute and cozy inside and they have seats where you can read the books you just bought. They also have some books from local authors which is awesome

This is my neighborhood book shop, and I am so very grateful that it exists. The owners are clearly passionate and well informed about all of the books they carry. They're always willing to order in books that they don't have on hand.
