Barbara's Bookstore (Northwestern Memorial Hospital)

Review written 12/29/2025. Located inside Northwestern Memorial Hospital on the first floor of Galter building. Nice selection of books and gifts to browse. Also have selection of bookmarks, postcards, tote bags, etc. Friendly cashier who asked if I wanted a bag or a receipt.

This is a quaint yet well-stocked bookstore located in a hospital building. You’ll find the latest books and some classics, too. The prices are typical - I paid $20 for a paperback. Sadly, I wasn’t greeted when I entered the store, and the clerk seemed less than enthused when I made small talk with him.

I am not local so I ordered online, but it was the best experience. I ordered a book that was hard to find after realizing my order at a bigger chain wasn’t going to be filled. I was almost immediately contacted by Barbara’s to let me know they were checking all their stores to make sure they sent me the correct edition and once they found it, they made sure to let me know and sent it right away. If I’m ever looking for something like that again, I will definitely look here first!
