Excellent book shop with a wide variety of books, bookish merch and more, the flow of the store felt bright and inviting, its the perfect little book nook to stop into. The woman working was extremely kind and knowledgeable. While we didnt special order anything she did assure us if there was something out there she didnt have she could get it! It would be great if we lived local but unfortunately are over 2 hours away or i would have! We briefly exchanged our love for greek and mythical literature which was fun, its nice to see employees and owners who love what they do and take passion in the products they carry! Definitely the right place to visit if youre wanting to shop small and support local businesses who take pride in what they do instead of pouring into big box companies!

My friends from Miami found this place so we went as soon as they landed in Tampa. Gorgeous bookstore! Amazing collection. HIGHLY recommend for that reason. (We were there for almost 45 mins and weren’t greeted or acknowledged once despite being the only ones in the store & checkout was cold but we still will be back to support local + support a black woman owned business + bc of the great collection.)

I'd give 10 stars if I could! We always have a wonderful time at the Black English Bookstore. The staff is always very helpful, professional, and fun. Everything is always neatly organized and they always have a good variety of interesting books for all ages to enjoy. I highly recommend giving them a try.

I went in today with my big brother and the young lady who helped us out was just amazing. She mentioned it was her 2nd day but it felt like she has been there forever the way she made us so comfortable and with the recommendations she offered. I will 10/10 be coming back and sending some friends over as well. It’s so beautiful to see such an amazing establishment in my home town!!!

What a gift to walk through the doors of the Black English Bookstore today! Situated on a corner in historic Tampa Heights, this Black women-owned store is a cozy and welcoming community spot that you MUST visit when visiting #Tampa “We are emancipated and so are the books,” said owner (and Tampa City Councilwoman) #GwenHenderson, who named the store after an essay by renowned writer James Baldwin. “As soon as you walk in the store you see James Baldwin,” she said. Beyond Baldwin, each section of the store is creatively curated to meet the needs of all readers. #HBCULegacyProject
