I stopped by Book Hampton in East Hampton and picked up The Daily Laws by Robert Greene, a book I’m hoping will help me grow both in business and in life. The bookstore itself was very organized, making it easy to browse and find exactly what I was looking for. A great spot for anyone who loves books.

Quite a disappointing experience. The staff were noticeably unhelpful, and any request for assistance felt like an imposition. I couldn’t help but observe a clear difference in how I was treated compared to a white man who arrived shortly after—warmly welcomed, while I was barely acknowledged. There is absolutely a tone of racism upon entry. I would not recommend this place if respectful, attentive service matters to you.

This small Hampton bookstore may be quaint, but it has so many wonderful qualities! The white interior gives it a bright, elegant feel, making it a beautiful space to browse. The book selection is fun and thoughtfully curated, with plenty of great finds for all kinds of readers. The staff is lovely—they make the cutest recommendations, adding a personal touch to the experience. It’s the perfect little spot for book lovers looking for something special!

Never felt so uncomfortable walking into a place. I went there this past weekend with some friends and as soon as we walked through the door the lady working there told my friend that was eating an ice cream in a rude way “we don’t typically let people eat in here” while there are NO SIGNS indicating that. My friend didn’t argue and stepped outside. After the rest of us browsed through the store and even purchased some books, we see this white man walk in eating his ice cream. We waited outside to see if she said anything to him… nothing was said. We even walked to other stores and when we headed back and peaked inside the store he was still there finishing his ice cream. My friend went in there and let the lady know what she has done and her response was “I can’t watch everyone” the store is not that big and if it was not a white man, I’m pretty sure you would have noticed that.

You'd think discrimination wouldn't exist in 2025 until you walk into this store. one of my friends was having an ice cream cone and prior to even walking in she asked within the group "do you think Im able to eat this inside?" We didn't see a sign outside so we took the chance. As soon as we step inside (this was on March 29th around1-2pm) the blonde lady in there immediately gave us an attitude and in such condescending tone told us she couldn't have her ice cream inside because they dont typically let anyone in with food. My friend proceeds to wait outside whilst the rest of us are shopping. A white male walked in a mere few minutes after us with a full cone and she said NOTHING. He was able to finish the entire ice cream cone inside the store. I quickly approached her and her response was "I can't watch anyone." but we immediately knew what she'd done. The store is small and there weren't that many people in there. If you are of color, please be aware of this lady. The cashier was much nicer.
