This place is amazing highly recommend dropping by. Super friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Kid friendly i bring my 2 year old son in every Friday and he plays with the shop dog and the little toys they have for the kids while enjoying a nice cup of iced tea. Super responsive when ordering books and they keep you in the loop while waiting for the book to arrive. Truly appreciate this amazing little book store. 10 out of 5 stars if you ask me.

Nice, friendly, establishment with a varied variety of books, local art, and a good cup of coffee. Loved that they highlight local authors and artists. Well worth a visit if you're in Barboursville.

I travel a lot and one of my favourite things to do is check out the local bookstores — but this one is most definitely my favourite! The shop itself is very cute, cozy, clean, and well-organized. I always love seeing their (award-winning!!) window paint and checking out their ever-changing displays up front. They have an amazing selection of Appalachian literature & folklore, and I love how much they support local artists. It’s a great place to find stickers, embroidery art, and all kinds of fun gifts. They carry plenty of classics and hot new releases from pretty much every genre, and it’s become my favourite place for buying romance books in particular. I feel like they make a real effort to be diverse and inclusive, which is one of many reasons they’re such a light in our community. Everyone who works here is absolutely wonderful. They’re so kind, knowledgeable, and personable. If you don’t know what to read, chances are they’ll have a thoughtful recommendation for you (I’ve taken several and definitely didn’t regret it!) The same goes for their drinks too. I’m horribly indecisive when it comes to what I want to drink, but they’ve brewed me up some amazing lattes since I started shopping here — probably the best flat white around, with vegan milk options! I don’t drink so I can’t speak for the alcohol, but I’ve only heard good things about that too. TL;DR — I love everything about Booktenders. Great selection, tasty drinks, wonderful people, and the cutest shop dog!
