Lovely independent bookstore in the heart of the Arroyo Grande Village. Great selection and a fantastic kids section. Great place to go for gifts. Staff will happily give recommendations and can also order any book you want with speedy shipping to you or for store pickup if it’s not in stock.

This is the cutest bookstore that my husband and I stumbled on in the village. We each chose a date night with a book for each other, and they were fantastic choices! They came with a cute bag of tea and bookmarks. I also got an adorable book bag. The gal there was a great help too! 10/10

Monarch Books is a gem in this community! I’m an educator, and the books that the owner curates are thoughtful, representative, and diverse. I love the space, and how it is laid out. The children’s section is my favorite children’s section of any other book store in the county.

I DREAMED of having a bookstore in the historical Village since I was a kid. And I couldn't be happier with the results. Lovely staff, bright and open spaces, adorable children's section. The selections are tailored, and I love that any customer can write a review to be displayed! They are quick with responding to my special order requests.

I walked into the store and wasn’t greeted, no wave, no “hello,” just silence. When I finally said hello myself, the employee looked up and said, “What?” before going right back to texting on her phone. Not exactly welcoming. As I wandered the store hoping to be pointed toward the section I was interested in, she continued tapping away, offering no help, no suggestions, and no mention of any ongoing promotions. I eventually found the section on my own (of course, with no thanks to her), but couldn’t find the book I was looking for. So I did what any frustrated shopper would do, I pulled out my phone and ordered it on Amazon, right there in the store. No one seemed to care. On my way out, I said goodbye, She looked up, stared at me blankly, then went right back to her phone. If you’re looking for a cute little bookstore with zero customer service, this is your place. Otherwise, save your time and your money.
