When it comes to bookstores in DC, Politics and Prose is pretty much legendary–and with good reason. I recently ventured into their Union Market location and, within seconds, I was completely drawn in. It’s one of those places that wraps you in possibility the moment you step inside with stories, ideas, and inspiration around every corner. Whether you’re a casual browser or someone who can’t leave a bookstore empty-handed, there’s something here for everyone. Every genre is thoughtfully curated and full of unexpected gems that spark curiosity. Naturally, I made a beeline to the food, art, and travel sections, which are my personal holy trinity and found myself just enticed at every turn. Politics & Prose is filled with cover art that grabs your eye. There’s a plethora of titles that stir your imagination. You’ll encounter infinite pages that invite you to dream bigger. I walked out with one of my new favorite travel-inspired coffee table books that’s already fueling my wanderlust inspiring me to explore one country, one experience at a time. Pro Tip: Politics and Prose has more than just books. From clever cards and magnets to quirky stickers and giftable gems, it’s a great spot to pick up something thoughtful, fun, or totally “you.” ✨ If you’re a book lover or just someone who craves beautiful, meaningful things, add Politics and Prose spot to your Union Market stroll. You never know what treasure you’ll leave with. ✨ Bonus tip: Check out their events calendar as there are always amazing author talks, signings, and community moments happening.

Went to Politics and Prose at Union Market for the first time. I attended a discussion with Michael Twitty about his new book, Recipies From the American South. Great evening! Michael was charming and witty, as always. The store is just lovely. Word to the wise ... don't drive. Parking is next to impossible. I had to drive around for 25 minutes (no exaggeration!) to finally find a space.

I genuinely did not know what to expect when walking into this space, but it caught my attention because they displayed black authors in the window. They had a great selection of books for black children, which was so refreshing because it is hard sometimes to find ones that are both good and empowering to boys and girls of color. It was a bit cramped in there, but what they lacked in space, they made up for in character and good reads. There isn't much more I can say about this place except that they are worth a visit! :)

I’ve loved going to Politics and Prose since I moved to DC 10 years ago. I’ve been gone for a bit and was quite ecstatic to find they have a location right in my old neighborhood. I’m not going to lie, it made me want to move back. I went there twice this week alone. My recent visit a couple hours right before my flight. It was worth the risk. I digress, the store itself is small but packed with the newest books on the shelf. Walking in, I was tempted to just touch all the books. There’s fun quirky collectibles and Knick knacks you’d be tempted to add on to your book purchase and the staff are very helpful too. I went on a Saturday morning and it wasn’t packed, there’s limited parking but not hard to find. I love books and I’m glad Politics and Prose is growing to have more locations. Definitely worth the visit.
