We are a small independent bookstore locally owned and operated on the north coast of California. Tin Can Mailman Used Books is ideally situated just a few miles from both the beach and the redwoods, and just one block from the center square. The store is housed in the original First Bank of Arcata built in 1913. Its beautiful architecture features large windows and skylights and a unique browsing environment. Tin Can Mailman has been selling, buying and trading books since 1972 and offers a diverse selection of books, from various genres of fiction and literature, to the classics, natural history, spirituality, crafts, how-to's and everything else! We cater to an eclectic community of diverse readers; from working professionals and local families to an ever changing population of university students who add both vibrancy and growth to our town and our inventory.

Best book store in the area. Great atmosphere. It has been here for a very long time and has not really changed. I can confirm it was almost exactly the same place in the 80s.

Warm welcome and good vibes here. Fine place to enter when looking for just the right book. Very knowledgeable there, beyond book smart. Respect.

A lovely place, I cannot stop going! There are so many books in so many genres at very good pricing, the organization is phenomenal, very easy to go around! Books are handpicked and are very high quality, I haven't seen a single one be less than gently used, no real damage on the books, which is a lot from used book stores, employees are nice and helpful, very knowledgeable about the store and things locations! Not Wheelchair accessible, as there are 2 floors and the top is only accessible by staircases that are very loud, and bottom floor some bookcases are very narrow to travel through.
