1804 Books, a not-for-profit bookstore at The Peoples Forum, is your shop for socialist literature and revolutionary theory. We're a community bookstore in NYC with accessible, internationalist resources for political education, organizing, and movement building. In 1804, the Haitian people overthrew colonialism and white supremacy, and made the dream of liberation a reality. 1804 Books gathers the theory and histories we need to continue the struggle for liberation! Come visit us, browse our collection, attend events and classes at The Peoples Forum, and see our Political Education Resource Platform. All proceeds from the bookstore directly support our educational and cultural programming at The Peoples Forum.

They have an absolutely amazing selection of books. If you are bewildered by the state of injustice/cruelty in the world and want to engage in the discourse in a meaningful way, this store has the perfect selection of books to start the journey of understanding and resisting.

Cozy warm welcoming vibes ! Love that they have a cafe, flags, and many rare books about historical and present leftist figures.

1804 provides a curated collection of literature which is difficult to find in stores elsewhere. If you’re not afraid of educating yourself, check this place out!

Love the selection of books—some I haven’t been able to find anywhere else in NYC! The employee was super helpful. One of the books I was looking for, I (very poorly) described in just a few words, and they knew exactly what I was talking about. Note: now that I’ve come here many times, there are tiny windows of time where a few people may gather at the front to sign in for a class (like the 5 min before a class begins). This doesn’t affect your ability to browse books and even sit in the cute connected cafe that has high ceilings and is surrounded by books, images, and flags. (One of the first times I visited, I walked up to the bookstore and was a little shy because I didn’t realize what was going on. But I quickly figured it out and went inside. Seriously, everyone is super friendly here. If you have a question, just ask!)

Order a shirt from them on October 4th 2025 , left a message and contact. No contact no product. Worst customer service. Buyers stay away from them.
