Steve and Cecilia, the owners of the then Cultural Legacy bookstore. 32nd Avenue Bookstore lives up to the legendary reviews. It’s amazing how this bookstore has grown into being a subreddit conspiracy after being here for at least a decade and being in a Colorado History article. I SO VERY MUCH want Westward to do cover of this place. How did the once community-esque bookstore, Cultural Legacy, become 32nd Avenue’s Bookstore that people quickly shuffle by to avoid the mean Able Sisters (yes, the sisters from Animal Crossing who follows you around the entire store)? From my experience, they were nice upon entering but you can sense they wanted you to get out ASAP. This was during the weekday. I heard a girl get yelled at for having her phone out and Steve saying they don’t allow cellphones because they don’t know what customers are doing on their phone … are they worried it’s the FBI? The selection they carry is culturally diverse and contained local artwork. Books that aren’t always carried by big wholesalers like B&N. Their selections reflect people with warm hearts, their aurora is horror. Come here for the legendary subreddit, but you are warned that this isn’t a standard customer service place. I did purchase a piece made by locals from here. No regrets, too scared to buy more in the future. Another customer also purchased a selection of books here.

Me and my kids love this store. Their pokemon and Lego options are great at crazy low prices. I especially love that its dog friendly since we usually have our pooches with us. I love to kick back and drink a coffee in one of the comfy seats and listen to the jazz music while my kids run around. Its especially nice knowing that as we are shopping we can always pop in and use the restroom. The owners are so friendly and chatty.

I’m really not sure why this store is getting the reviews it is. My husband and I frequent the store and every time we go in both owners are beyond helpful and so friendly. They are always genuinely curious with the last books that we’ve read so they can recommend new ones. They even offer art classes during the week and they were so kind to invite us because they had a few spots left. Whatever you hear about the owners following you around the store, they are just trying to be helpful and they are the most kindhearted people, and we will gladly continue giving them our business. Support local and be kind!

Wow. I am not sure I have words for what I just experienced at this store. If you can call it a store? I don't know, I feel like it has to be a front for something. The owner is rude and cold and they do not allow shopping? Wildly confusing. I want to go on and on about my experience but I think it might be better if I just share some alternate bookstores to support! There really is no reason to support 32nd Avenue Books Toys and Gifts. West Side Books is just a short walk down the street and a lovely experience. A wide selection of new and old books and the people are friendly! Second Star to The Right Tattered Cover Book Store The Shop At Matter Petals and Pages The Bookies Bookstore And many more!!!

Came in wanting to check out what kids books they had. The owner, rather than greeting us, immediately said "let me explain how our store works." She proceeded to tell us that we were not allowed to browse; we need to tell her what specific book we are looking for, she would bring it to us and we would buy it. I explained we weren't looking for anything specific but would decide what we wanted based on what they had. She would not let me in to look! My husband said if we knew exactly what we wanted we would order it online (Amazon). They said they don't want customers who shop online! Well... wish granted! We wont be returning and will tell everyone in the neighborhood TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! My aunt had a similarly bad experience where the owner scolded her for sending a text to her friend to let her know which store she was in--strict no phones allowed policy! It's not like she was gabbing away loudly, just sending one text. She left without purchasing $70 of merchandise she had picked out because she was so appalled.
