Connect with fellow book lovers, stay updated on bookshop events, and discover new independent bookshops.
Alienated Majesty Books sells poetry, literary fiction, and works in translation, showcasing works from small independent presses. We host book groups, literary readings and events, and we provide a community bulletin board where writing groups, editors, ghostwriters, and other professionals serving the literary community can advertise their services. We want to be the gathering place of choice for writers and readers. Our name comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay "Self Reliance": "In every work of genius we see our own rejected thoughts; they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty." We hope that readers will find parts of their own genius reflected in the works on our shelves.

Great bookstore with many international authors not typically found in your larger bookstores. Wide variety and alternating titles every month I believe. Would definitely recommend if you want to look for new titles not on a list or social media.

This place is the perfect place for readers! It has an array of books from textbooks to fiction to poetry and novels. This is perfect for language learners that want to read in Spanish, Chinese, French, Japanese, and many others. Rare finds are abundant; that can be found with hours of curiosity. I could have blown my whole check at this place! The books are reasonably priced.

The best book store in Austin. Every city should be so lucky to have a place like this. From zines to books from Indy publishers on all sorts of topics this is the spot of all spots. It's also a great gathering place as they have shows and workshops and things. It just feels good in there.

They have a beautiful collection that is truly curated from a place of care and thorough research. The zines and books offered here are so niche and hard to even discover especially since the cultural diversity of the books offered is so vast. You can tell the owner takes pride in their work and this is evident in every step you take within the store. The mini free library swap in the back is a beautiful way to create a safe space for everyone and allow everyone to leave with something regardless of their financial circumstances. Their intentional partnerships and events nourish the community. I recently attended the Austin Mutual Aid Franken-Zine release party and I appreciated Alienated Majestic Books so much for creating a safe space for important events snd discussions like these to occur. I would be so excited if a partnership or joined event ever occurred between Aliented Majestic Books and Monkeywrench Books. Everyone should come support Alienated Majestic Books even if that's just with your presence!
