Barner Books

This shop is seriously amazing! I have a very specific genre of hooks that like to purchase from here, because they’re the only store that has as strange of a selection as I’m into, and Abby has gone out of her way to make sure I see the best stuff when it comes in! Who else has had a personal shopper for their special interests?! No matter what you like to read, this place has such a unique selection of books. Both the owner and Abby are kind, open-minded and fantastic people that it feels good to support!

One of the things I love most about Barner Books is that they had exactly what I was looking for when I went holiday shopping this year: namely, a book light and a poster detailing the many names of pasta varieties (yes, I went looking because I knew they’d have it!) All this on top of great books, lovely people and a convenient location on Church Street aka Book Alley across from Inquiring Minds. Love to both!

Barner Books is a jewel of the Hudson Valley. They've got an excellent selection, including an impressive rare book section. If you're weeding your own shelves, they'll give you more than fair prices for your books. And the proprietors and knowledgeable and friendly to boot. Highest recommendation !

If it wasn't for Barner Books I'd be even more of an idiot. The books aren't just for reading either, when short on time try giving them a good sniff. The staff has never cast outward judgement on my multisensory enjoyment. Feeling comfortable is very important when choosing the correct book and that means Barner Books is the only option for me. Such a cornerstone business of New Paltz, simply brilliant, 6 stars!
