Copperfield's Books (Sebastopol)

great local bookstore, my go-to for beautiful books for the little ones in my life! they had a super awesome gift-wrapping station set up for the holidays. i really appreciated being able to send off beautiful gifts. had to take a pic of this wrapping paper because the selection was so fabulous

Really lovely and local bookshop. I appreciate all the locations, usually go to the Napa one but the Santa Rosa one is a lovely one! Actually found a book on my TBR I head about from KPFA.

I had a really unfortunate experience here with egregiously rude and unpleasant employees. After being repeatedly treated like a horrendous inconvenience by them—seemingly just for daring to want to buy books there—the weirdest moment was when they didn’t even seem willing to ring me up. I was approaching the register, eager to leave, and one employee said in a venomous tone: “Oh, you have all of that?! Haven’t you already bought it?!” Perhaps this was meant as an invitation to walk out with the stuff, because they (the horrible employees) just didn’t want to be bothered. I’ve worked in an independent bookstore before, and had my share of difficult days and customers. I attempted to get in and out of the store without causing the employees any unusual stress, yet was treated like an unbearable burden from start to finish of the—mercifully brief—visit. I feel sorry for the owners of the store, if they are unaware of how toxic their employees’ behavior is. It seems like a charmingly laid out place, but with that sort of “customer service,” I’ll be happy never to return there.

Absolutely love the store. Such a wonderful feeling when you walk in and they have so many neat books and things to look at.
