Mystery Pier Books

Such a fun surprise in West Hollywood! We were in the area to visit Book Soup (also great) & noticed a sign for Mystery Pier Books. You walk down a little passage and come upon this bookstore full of first edition books, scripts, & many signed copies. The men who own the shop are incredibly friendly and welcoming & are happy to talk about their books. Definitely worth a visit.

If you are not local to LA do not plan a drive out just to visit this place. I originally planned an LA day just to visit this spot, and I’m glad I had other things planned. The store is very niche. The price points are understandable considering that they are first edition books. However, owner made the experience uncomfortable. Respect the books and don’t touch anything. Definitely not a place to “just browse and chill.” You will be met with mediocre, condescending customer service. The experience turned south when I politely asked how long had the store been around, and the owner dismissively just said “before you were born….1997….” I’m definitely older than the store, as well as old enough to know where my money is worth spending. I tried to take it as a compliment, but thinking back on it, the tone was just not complimentary. I do not have any intent to return, or recommend this place to anyone.

What a hidden surprise! This adorable first edition bookshop is down a small dark passage way that leads to a delightful respite of pure book nerd joy. The owner is a delight, welcoming each guest. With a few questions (and a keen eye) he figures out “just the thing” to show off to make you realize how special this place is— for me a signed jaws script and a signed Where the wild things are book. The celebrity photographs of clients just adds to the glamour. Do yourself a favor and stop by, purchase a shirt and enjoy this tiny gem.

What an absolute amazing experience visiting this jewel in the heart of Hollywood. Found this place by chance on a walk down Sunset. The owners are friendly, welcoming and wonderful hosts. My son and I were mesmerized by the variety of books. I loved my time browsing through autographed first edition books and movie scripts. If you’re ever near this landmark in LA , you must visit , you won’t regret it.
