Proudly indie since 1978, The Golden Notebook in Woodstock provides quality literature to creative folk in the wild heart of the Catskills and beyond.

The Golden Notebook is such a charming little bookstore. It’s small and cozy but filled with so many great book options. I was especially excited to find a wide selection of Penguin Classics. The staff were all very kind and helpful, which made browsing even better. They also have an upstairs space dedicated to children’s books, which is such a sweet touch. Truly a lovely place to visit. 📚✨

Stuffed to the brim with books! I appreciated that they had decently-sized and diverse SFF and YA sections. It’s also always good to see a separate romance section though I do wish it were larger and featured more BIPOC authors. Lastly, I really liked their local authors shelf! Unfortunately, two elements make me hesitant to return or recommend this shop. Firstly, I wish they had ensured the aisles were wide enough for those of us who use mobility aids to easily maneuver. I really struggled here while I have no issues in much smaller shops. With some adjustments to the center tables, this can be easily accomplished and would show care for their disabled customers (as well as parents with strollers). Secondly, I’m very disappointed by their continued promotion (via banner on their website and signage in store) of Neil Gaiman who, at last count, had abuse allegations from at least 8 women.

Charming and cozy bookstore with a great selection of books. The kids' section upstairs is adorable and has a cute mural on the wall. I could spend hours in this store.

Love this bookstore! I’ve done multiple purchases online through them, and I’ve always had a positive experience. Today, I had the pleasure of visiting the store in person for the first time (a two-hour drive from my house), and it was incredibly charming and definitely worth the drive. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Thanks to this store and Neil Gaiman, I have signed copies of all of my favorite Neil Gaiman novels — an incredible treat for this fan. Thank you! Bonus: I absolutely love my new TGN tote!
