Here’s a clean, natural Google Review you can post as-is: ⸻ Finally made it to the Painted Porch in Bastrop and it was absolutely worth the trip. This is exactly the kind of bookstore experience I look for. Not endless shelves packed with filler, but a thoughtfully curated selection where you actually want to pick things up and read them. Every book feels intentional. You’re not sorting through noise, you’re choosing from quality. It’s refreshing and honestly rare. The space itself is just as compelling as the books. The design details really stand out, especially the fireplace, which gives the whole place a warm, inviting feel that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. If you’re anywhere near Bastrop, this place is a must visit. Come for the books, stay for the atmosphere, and leave with something you’re genuinely excited to read.

There's nothing I love more than a small Texas town independently owned bookshop! This store has a great curated selection that includes classics and important older works as well as new emerging lit. On my most recent trip, I went with the horror suggestions from staff and I can't wait to get reading. This cozy shop has many different rooms and even a reading picnic table porch! If you are in Bastrop, you have to stop by and pick up something good to read. I love that they have secret bookshelf doors!

A fabulous sight for sore eyes!!! Beautiful little store with thought-provoking, mind-expanding books. A great find in a state that has been banning books and in the process suppressing art, limiting freedom of expression, allowing no opportunity for critical thinking and so much more!

Welcoming, enveloping bookstore that rambles through several spaces and genres, carefully curated by the staff. Their staff selections are labeled with thoughtful commentary, and their book displays highlight exciting reads familiar and unfamiliar. The books are also used in several artistic arrangements, including a window display always worth looking into. Complimenting the store's literary collection, they have bookish accessories throughout and cleverly designed clothes in the back. The rear of the property also features the shop's namesake porch. A great bookstore is a credit and blessing to its community. Visit anytime you're able.

I love a good independent book store and visit them wherever I travel. Visited The Painted Porch Book Shop on Sunday, 01/11/26. It was a Sunday so the store was fairly empty. Pros • The book fireplace was amazing. • The aesthetic was top notch. • The hidden employee door was so whimsical. Cons • Neither employee greeted me or even seem interested in assisting me. • At checkout the associate said maybe two words to me. I will give the store another go next time I am in the area. Maybe it was just an odd day. 🤷🏻♀️
