The Twig Book Shop began its evolution in San Antonio in 1972. Our name The Twig Book Shop got its inspiration from the Alexander Pope quote, "'Tis education forms the common mind; just as the twig is bent the tree's inclined." Currently located at the former Pearl Brewery on the Museum Reach of the Riverwalk, The Twig provides newly released books for children and adults as well as award-winning classics. The space at Pearl has become a venue for local and national poets and authors. The Twig makes books available for book clubs, schools, and conferences. The Texana collection makes The Twig a destination for history lovers near and far. Hard cover and soft cover books can be purchased from this website, the database for which accesses a national distributor for independent bookstores. Libro.fm audio, and Kobo electronic books are also available so you should have no interruptions in your reading momentum. We welcome and appreciate your physical and/or virtual patronage.

One of the best parts about visiting a bookstore is the conversations I get to experience during checkout. The book I purchased sparked a beautiful conversation with the ladies at the checkout counter. I love listening to how others interpret / respond to an author's perspective. It's one of the richest's parts of discussing books. I took my time browsing this cute indie bookstore. I always take my time in bookstores as I walk each isle waiting to find the book that calls to me. I have so many books on my, to-be-read list and when I spot one of them on a shelf, it's like seeing an old friend. The book I chose to bring home with me was, The Selected Works of Audre Lorde. What a gem for only $16.95. I'm going to really enjoy this one. Her work is raw, powerful, and unapologetic. I also bought a bookmark which is something I always do when buying a new book. They just go hand in hand. You'll find many options at the checkout counter. Make sure to take a look at the beautiful journals if you're also into exploring your thoughts through writing.

Book store is amazing! Love the history of it, their mission how accommodating they were to their patrons. You can tell the people that work there are there for the books

There seems to be a pattern of rude customer service here. Sadly I am another person to have received very poor service at The Twig, and I tried so hard to support them. They simply do not seem to be interested in maintaining customers: from an order that was never placed, rudeness from a staff person when I inquired about the delayed order, and then a "supervisor" who fumbled her words to pretty much just walk away from the conversation. Their staff actions speak loudly, and sadly for their customers, over quite some time now. (Is this the famous Texan friendliness folks talk about?)

Five stars - but the hours make no sense I was visiting San Antonio for the first time, exploring the Pearl District after driving in from Austin. I stumbled upon this bookstore and was genuinely excited to go in — it looked warm, inviting, and exactly the kind of place I love to browse. But on a busy Saturday night, with massive foot traffic and tons of people out shopping and spending money, the store was closed. That really surprised me. This is the prime time of the entire week for businesses here, and closing during such high-traffic hours honestly makes no sense. I’m still giving five stars because the shop itself looks great, but the hours feel like a major missed opportunity. Being closed on Friday and Saturday nights is just bad business practice in an area that thrives during those times. I hope they rethink their hours to match the energy and demand of the Pearl — because they’re losing out on a lot of customers like me.

I loved visiting this quaint bookstore. The bookshelves loom up around you so you feel tucked in, nice and nestled into a cozy space. They have a few sections that are packed full with books. Some specialty sections that would be worth sorting through. They also have nifty little gift ideas. I grabbed some unique bookmarks for Christmas gifts. I didn’t get a chance to spend too much time here as I was busy awaiting an appointment, but if you’re at the market or in the area I highly recommend you check it out! Staff is also very friendly and welcoming. It’s cozy, but it’s clean
